3 Years and Counting!!

(Picture was taken on our 1st fishing trip, the day after we met)

That's right Girlies! It's been 3 years since Richard and I first met. And as you all know, we've been "Hooked" since the first day.
Most of you already know how we met. It was pretty unconventional altogether now that we think of it.
My best friend and I decided to go out to our favorite hang out place, THE BEACH. She has a trailer out there so we could go whenever. That particular Friday, I had to visit some of my clients, and we left late to the Island. On our way, she gets a call from "her friend" that she had kind of been dating here and there for awhile. He invites us over to a BBQ at our friend Carlos' trailer at the beach also. As we head out, we reminisce about all the fun we've had over the years and places we've been and concerts we've gone to. We have quite a story to tell about how she and I met also. (Next post)
Anyways, we arrive and the guys begin unloading the items we'd brought for the BBQ. She introduces me to Robert, her longtime friend. I had never met him before and I knew all her friends. He introduces us both to his younger brother, Richard.
The night goes on, Richard leaves to sleep since he's fishing tomorrow, and the rest of us stay up until the wee hours of the morning, talking, laughing, going out onto the beach in the Jeep with the music blasting! Jamming out to Tom Petty and Journey. It was fun and I really needed a laugh.
Morning came, Letty and I got ready to have lunch when her friend calls her for us to join them for lunch. We meet Robert and Richard for lunch at Blackbeard's and as we talk he realizes that I enjoy fishing. Fishing and hunting is Richard's PASSION.
We leave our separate ways, then we call Robert to ask his brother who he recommends if we want to go fishing. He offers to take us BUT we have to wear Bikinis... LOLOLOL
That's where the fun began. Richard picked us up and we were off. What was supposed to be a 4 hour trip became a trip from 1 PM-10 PM. We had a blast. Richard said he knew that the moment I hopped on his boat, I was the one. While fishing, he asked me for something that had fallen on the floor and as I handed it to him, he opened his hand wide and held my whole hand in his. I looked at him and he smiled :)
3 years later, here we are, married, living in our home, with my son (his step-son) and loving every minute God gives us together.
The saying, You'll find the one when you're not looking. Well, it sounds so cliche, but it's so true. I was not looking for anyone after coming out of a relationship months before, but apparently the man up above had something else planned for me. :)

So today, Letty, i thank you for that special day 3 years ago. I'm so glad you convinced me to go, because if not, we'd probably be at a Kenny Chesney or George Strait concert right now, having some cold drinks and laughing it up OR in Vegas hitting the Casinos---- Hmmmm, that actually still sounds pretty good!

All my love to you my friend, for being there when it all began. I love you!

Crazy Week

This week has just been nutts and weird! I was in Houston for work and had a FANTABULOUS dinner with Gabby at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse....YUUMM!!!

Sometime right after dinner as we drove to my hotel, my foot began to swell. Not both just one. i thought maybe it's just the heels. After I showered and got to bed, my foot was hurting and even more swollen. I slept with my foot elevated. By morning it was BIG and I had to make a quick stop at a local Wal-Mart to buy a pair of flats that would last me the day. The shoes had to be a 1/2 bigger. LOLOLOL

We were cracking up.

I had head home only to get a phone call from my Dentist that I have my follow-up for 2 cavities on Thursday. I began asking questions about needles, a sleeping gas, pain, the drilling etc.....

The doc (my friend) came on the line and said , "Sonia, are you really afraid?? You're nto afraid of anything?"
Uhh, are you kidding me! You're sticking needles in my mouth! On the day of my appointment, it wasn't all that bad, but they had the gas prepared in case i freaked out, LOLOL!
The needles didn't hurt that much afterall, and I was being silly scared for nothing.

*******This post was several months ago, and now I really do feel silly about the whole Dentist visit!******

XM, Sirius or FM Radio......

I struggle every 6 months with whether or not I should continue to purchase my XM Radio service. I used to love Sirius Satellite in my Mercedes, but Chevy uses XM Radio. I have grown to love it just as much.

Everytime I get that bill in the mail, I turn on my good old FM radio station and tune in to my favorite K-TEX 100.3, Oldies 107.9 or 102 Old Country.

I always seem to remember what I loved about the old fashioned radio stations. You know when you're driving down the highway, and you hear "THAT" song, the one that you just had to sing over and over again by Journey. Singing it at the top of your lungs with your friends; the car top down, wind blowing in your hair and just the road ahead:

Just a small town girl, livin in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south detroit
He took the midnight train goin anywhere
A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill,
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin anything to roll the dice,
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

(Chorus)

Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights people,
living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the niiiiiiiiiiiiiiight

Of course, lets not forget "Only the Young," that's a song for a road trip with the girls!
I did decide to keep my XM Radio and I will just have to find another way to save money :) I love having over 150 Channels for whatever mood I'm in.

Crash Test Dummy- Always wear your riding helmet

Yep, that is me! Or so I felt like it :)
Friday afternoon was supposed to have been a nice afternoon taking a leisurely ride through a trail in Mission, Texas on my "Awesome" Specialized bike. Last week I had Bicycle World install my new road pedals and I got my new riding shoes to go with it.
Somewhere between La Feria and Mission, I drank a Monster Energy lo-Carb drink (light dinner, no breakfast and no lunch). Not long after riding and taking pictures like I usually do, I crashed my bike and myself into the pavement.
8 hours later, I began to realize that
1) I'd been in a bad accident
2) I didn't even remember crashing
3) I somehow was taken in an ambulance to the hospital
3) I'd lost some memory since I thought I'd been in a car accident with my brother
4) and yes, at some point I did think Oh My Holy God!!!! How much is this going to COST!!!

After several hours of being in a hospital, 2 CT Scans, blood work, urine analysis and some reaaaaaly good morphine, I was released to the arms of my loving and obviously concerned hubby.

Since the accident I've wondered what really happened. My hubby says I hit his back tires with my bike but never said anything, the best guess so far has been that I passed out. (Is this related to my Monster Drink...Not sure)Hmmm.
My NEW shoes were still locked and clipped into my pedals (hence the pain and soreness of my ankles). I went straight into the ground like a sack of potatoes. Thank God I was wearing a helmet (reminder to buy a new one-this one cracked) because this could have been sooo much worse.

My hubby hugged me the rest of the night as I dosed off in his arms. Since then, I have come to terms with the fact that I fell !! it's just unbelievable that I actually had a "biking accident."
Well, if i had to do it again, this would be the outcome--- of course, if i wasn't passed out in an ambulance.

What I would do if I had to do all over again!!!

-Stay down. Make it look as though, while you certainly didn't mean to wind up on the pavement, you're kind of happy you did. Go into your bag, make a few phone calls, maybe eat something. Or else just fold your hands behind your head, relax, and gaze wistfully at the sky. People respect people who take life as it comes.
--Make it count. Once you realize you're going down, maximize the shock value. Send the bike sliding for a few yards. If you can, take a few other riders with you. Then get up and finish your bike off like Pete Townshend laying waste to his guitar at the end of a concert. Maybe even take out a car windshield too. Clumsiness is embarrassing--total wipe out is awesome.
--Jump right up and shout incredulously. "Holy crap! Did you see that?!?"
--Breakdance!
Last but not least::: CRY :)

2009 Oblate Trail Ride

I completed another 25 mile bike ride today in the Rio Grande Valley. The 2009 Oblate Trail Ride was a success. Even with winds gusting up to 36 mph, we had a great time!!

The route followed the famous Oblate Trail along Military Highway, an area the Oblates of Mary Immaculate traveled by horse more than 100 years ago to celebrate Mass in the remote communities along the Rio Grande River. The ride is to help break the cycle of poverty in the Valley.

Cynthia, a fellow cyclist, that I met last weekend at another cycling event, and I set out to complete this mission we'd signed up for. What int he world were we thinking!!! The winds were awful and I was beginning to worry that I wouldn't finish this ride.

So eventually we got things ready and met another cyclist, Dali, a brave and very motivating girl. Cynthia and Dali were absolute motivators for me today and I KNOW that I wouldn't have completed this race without this amazing encouragement.

Cynthia, Dali, Mimi (someone else we met) and I are already getting signed up for about 4 or 5 more events. We are so excited! If I could do this in these winds, I can do anything!

OH!! And the fact that my hubby was supposed to do this ride with me and didn't... well, tonight he is treating me to a wonderfully romantic evening; dinner, drinks, etc.....
