3 Years and Counting!!

(Picture was taken on our 1st fishing trip, the day after we met)

That's right Girlies! It's been 3 years since Richard and I first met. And as you all know, we've been "Hooked" since the first day.
Most of you already know how we met. It was pretty unconventional altogether now that we think of it.
My best friend and I decided to go out to our favorite hang out place, THE BEACH. She has a trailer out there so we could go whenever. That particular Friday, I had to visit some of my clients, and we left late to the Island. On our way, she gets a call from "her friend" that she had kind of been dating here and there for awhile. He invites us over to a BBQ at our friend Carlos' trailer at the beach also. As we head out, we reminisce about all the fun we've had over the years and places we've been and concerts we've gone to. We have quite a story to tell about how she and I met also. (Next post)
Anyways, we arrive and the guys begin unloading the items we'd brought for the BBQ. She introduces me to Robert, her longtime friend. I had never met him before and I knew all her friends. He introduces us both to his younger brother, Richard.
The night goes on, Richard leaves to sleep since he's fishing tomorrow, and the rest of us stay up until the wee hours of the morning, talking, laughing, going out onto the beach in the Jeep with the music blasting! Jamming out to Tom Petty and Journey. It was fun and I really needed a laugh.
Morning came, Letty and I got ready to have lunch when her friend calls her for us to join them for lunch. We meet Robert and Richard for lunch at Blackbeard's and as we talk he realizes that I enjoy fishing. Fishing and hunting is Richard's PASSION.
We leave our separate ways, then we call Robert to ask his brother who he recommends if we want to go fishing. He offers to take us BUT we have to wear Bikinis... LOLOLOL
That's where the fun began. Richard picked us up and we were off. What was supposed to be a 4 hour trip became a trip from 1 PM-10 PM. We had a blast. Richard said he knew that the moment I hopped on his boat, I was the one. While fishing, he asked me for something that had fallen on the floor and as I handed it to him, he opened his hand wide and held my whole hand in his. I looked at him and he smiled :)
3 years later, here we are, married, living in our home, with my son (his step-son) and loving every minute God gives us together.
The saying, You'll find the one when you're not looking. Well, it sounds so cliche, but it's so true. I was not looking for anyone after coming out of a relationship months before, but apparently the man up above had something else planned for me. :)

So today, Letty, i thank you for that special day 3 years ago. I'm so glad you convinced me to go, because if not, we'd probably be at a Kenny Chesney or George Strait concert right now, having some cold drinks and laughing it up OR in Vegas hitting the Casinos---- Hmmmm, that actually still sounds pretty good!

All my love to you my friend, for being there when it all began. I love you!

Crazy Week

This week has just been nutts and weird! I was in Houston for work and had a FANTABULOUS dinner with Gabby at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse....YUUMM!!!

Sometime right after dinner as we drove to my hotel, my foot began to swell. Not both just one. i thought maybe it's just the heels. After I showered and got to bed, my foot was hurting and even more swollen. I slept with my foot elevated. By morning it was BIG and I had to make a quick stop at a local Wal-Mart to buy a pair of flats that would last me the day. The shoes had to be a 1/2 bigger. LOLOLOL

We were cracking up.

I had head home only to get a phone call from my Dentist that I have my follow-up for 2 cavities on Thursday. I began asking questions about needles, a sleeping gas, pain, the drilling etc.....

The doc (my friend) came on the line and said , "Sonia, are you really afraid?? You're nto afraid of anything?"
Uhh, are you kidding me! You're sticking needles in my mouth! On the day of my appointment, it wasn't all that bad, but they had the gas prepared in case i freaked out, LOLOL!
The needles didn't hurt that much afterall, and I was being silly scared for nothing.

*******This post was several months ago, and now I really do feel silly about the whole Dentist visit!******

XM, Sirius or FM Radio......

I struggle every 6 months with whether or not I should continue to purchase my XM Radio service. I used to love Sirius Satellite in my Mercedes, but Chevy uses XM Radio. I have grown to love it just as much.

Everytime I get that bill in the mail, I turn on my good old FM radio station and tune in to my favorite K-TEX 100.3, Oldies 107.9 or 102 Old Country.

I always seem to remember what I loved about the old fashioned radio stations. You know when you're driving down the highway, and you hear "THAT" song, the one that you just had to sing over and over again by Journey. Singing it at the top of your lungs with your friends; the car top down, wind blowing in your hair and just the road ahead:

Just a small town girl, livin in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south detroit
He took the midnight train goin anywhere
A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill,
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin anything to roll the dice,
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

(Chorus)

Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights people,
living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the niiiiiiiiiiiiiiight

Of course, lets not forget "Only the Young," that's a song for a road trip with the girls!
I did decide to keep my XM Radio and I will just have to find another way to save money :) I love having over 150 Channels for whatever mood I'm in.

Crash Test Dummy- Always wear your riding helmet

Yep, that is me! Or so I felt like it :)
Friday afternoon was supposed to have been a nice afternoon taking a leisurely ride through a trail in Mission, Texas on my "Awesome" Specialized bike. Last week I had Bicycle World install my new road pedals and I got my new riding shoes to go with it.
Somewhere between La Feria and Mission, I drank a Monster Energy lo-Carb drink (light dinner, no breakfast and no lunch). Not long after riding and taking pictures like I usually do, I crashed my bike and myself into the pavement.
8 hours later, I began to realize that
1) I'd been in a bad accident
2) I didn't even remember crashing
3) I somehow was taken in an ambulance to the hospital
3) I'd lost some memory since I thought I'd been in a car accident with my brother
4) and yes, at some point I did think Oh My Holy God!!!! How much is this going to COST!!!

After several hours of being in a hospital, 2 CT Scans, blood work, urine analysis and some reaaaaaly good morphine, I was released to the arms of my loving and obviously concerned hubby.

Since the accident I've wondered what really happened. My hubby says I hit his back tires with my bike but never said anything, the best guess so far has been that I passed out. (Is this related to my Monster Drink...Not sure)Hmmm.
My NEW shoes were still locked and clipped into my pedals (hence the pain and soreness of my ankles). I went straight into the ground like a sack of potatoes. Thank God I was wearing a helmet (reminder to buy a new one-this one cracked) because this could have been sooo much worse.

My hubby hugged me the rest of the night as I dosed off in his arms. Since then, I have come to terms with the fact that I fell !! it's just unbelievable that I actually had a "biking accident."
Well, if i had to do it again, this would be the outcome--- of course, if i wasn't passed out in an ambulance.

What I would do if I had to do all over again!!!

-Stay down. Make it look as though, while you certainly didn't mean to wind up on the pavement, you're kind of happy you did. Go into your bag, make a few phone calls, maybe eat something. Or else just fold your hands behind your head, relax, and gaze wistfully at the sky. People respect people who take life as it comes.
--Make it count. Once you realize you're going down, maximize the shock value. Send the bike sliding for a few yards. If you can, take a few other riders with you. Then get up and finish your bike off like Pete Townshend laying waste to his guitar at the end of a concert. Maybe even take out a car windshield too. Clumsiness is embarrassing--total wipe out is awesome.
--Jump right up and shout incredulously. "Holy crap! Did you see that?!?"
--Breakdance!
Last but not least::: CRY :)

2009 Oblate Trail Ride

I completed another 25 mile bike ride today in the Rio Grande Valley. The 2009 Oblate Trail Ride was a success. Even with winds gusting up to 36 mph, we had a great time!!

The route followed the famous Oblate Trail along Military Highway, an area the Oblates of Mary Immaculate traveled by horse more than 100 years ago to celebrate Mass in the remote communities along the Rio Grande River. The ride is to help break the cycle of poverty in the Valley.

Cynthia, a fellow cyclist, that I met last weekend at another cycling event, and I set out to complete this mission we'd signed up for. What int he world were we thinking!!! The winds were awful and I was beginning to worry that I wouldn't finish this ride.

So eventually we got things ready and met another cyclist, Dali, a brave and very motivating girl. Cynthia and Dali were absolute motivators for me today and I KNOW that I wouldn't have completed this race without this amazing encouragement.

Cynthia, Dali, Mimi (someone else we met) and I are already getting signed up for about 4 or 5 more events. We are so excited! If I could do this in these winds, I can do anything!

OH!! And the fact that my hubby was supposed to do this ride with me and didn't... well, tonight he is treating me to a wonderfully romantic evening; dinner, drinks, etc.....

Springtime (almost) and Lent

Just when I think that the weather will be my cycling friend, here comes another coolfront. I have my spring wear out in my closet already and have started packign away my winter clothes. Come on already! Arrrgghh!!!!

Sprint means that it's the time of year again when Lent is here. I have chosen to give up Sodas, french fries and burgers. Mr. Reel Happy has yet to give up something (maybe cigarettes) and Roberto, our son, has stuck to his NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION so well, that he will continue to give up Sodas and his very favorite, Flamin' Hot Cheetos, LOLOL.
We'll see how it goes :)

It's FRIDAY and that means another wonderful weekend ahead. This weekend we'll spend time with my in-laws, go cycling, go to my nephews bday party and then finally, the day I have been waiting for for soooo long--------my bike race. I will compete on Sunday in my first bike race. I have been preparing for this for a couple of months now. my ankle and knee are much better so Mr. Reel Happy and Roberto will drive over to watch and take pictures. I love them!! They have been so encouraging and understanding when I'd rather go biking than to a movie or dinner.
Thanks Guys! I hope to God that it is not that windy.

New Baby Nephew

I'm an Auntie Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today, I witnessed the love, magic and together of family again. A new bouncing baby boy was born to my sister and brother in law. He is beautiful and healthy as can be. I was so happy and excited to hold him today that for a second I wanted another child myself..... Ummmm, but just for a split second. (LOL)
I look forward to seeing and hearing about the baby's first this and first that. These are the most important moments that parents will endure. We're so proud and happy for the new "mum and dad."
And he smelled just like I imagined, newborn baby!

Our 1st Valentines Day as Mr. & Mrs.

Valentine's Day is here and I can't help but remember last year; this day. Richard proposed in the most romantic way right after a delicious dinner at home. Lobster tails, steak, wine, chocolate covered strawberries... we thought of it all. I've always loved it but not like LOVED it. I always thought it was sort of an over-rated holiday LOLOL!!

Not anymore. It will always hold a special meaning to me. I remember the feeling of OMG, this is it, its really happening, OMG I should say something like "YES!"

Yes yes yes a thousand times yes.

This year we didn't make dinner at home.

We spent the morning and early afternoon bike riding through the trails in Mission, Texas. It is one of our favorites biking areas to ride. We rode 13.1 miles ! The second helf was harder since we had strong winds coming against us.

We had a very romantic ride. And YES, I got my new Specialized Dolce Elite bike!!! it is AWESOME!!

After our ride, we came home made ourselves a light lunch and rested up for our Romantic Dinner. We had reservations at Santa Fe Steakhouse in McAllen, Texas. http://www.steaksatsantafe.com/

We LOOOve this restaurant. We've had lots of good times together and with friends here. We opted out of Steaks this time, but they are great here. This night The Mr had the Salmon with Twice Baked Potato and fresh Asparagus. I had the absolutely delicious Duck with Red Plum glaze with a twice baked potato. Our salads were a mixture of mango, tangerines, calamari and mixed greens. Our desserts were a emon mandarine cake and a NY Cheesecake accompanied with flutes of Korbel Champagne.

The restaurant also included a rose for every MRS and a picture for us to keep.

We were reminded why this is one of our favorite restaurants to eat at whether its with each other or with a group of friends. (And God knows we do this alot!)

Our evening ended at home, We danced to "Our" Song and the MR sand it softly in my ear so lovingly.
OH!! And the next day he was off to go "fishing again!" LOLOLOL I love him for who he is and for loving me for who I am. I'm grateful each and everyday that the Lord brought us to each other.
"Christ Alone"
The romance does not end here: We have a special surprise coming up this weekend!!!

My Dolce Elite.... maybe?

VALENTINE'S ANYONE?
OK, I have finally outgrown the old clunker of a bike that I have (bought at a Dallas Wal-Mart 9 years ago and about 50 lbs). I have used it to the limit and I am ready for a "new ride!"

The Mr. laughs everytime I take it out of the garage to ride with him and I now know why. Last night we went shopping for bikes. Real bikes. I never knew that there was such a huge difference in the bike you chose to ride.
I'm learning more and more everyday since I've started bike riding again. This is a passion and I'll be racing in an event soon. (I remember bike riding at White Rock lake in Dallas; aahh the relaxing weekends I used to have there) :o(
I am working much too hard to get my old bike to move; it shouldn't be so difficult. The guy at the bikeshop said that I'll be leaving the Hubby behind in the dust soon LOL. After researching all over the internet and shops from San Antonio to the Rio Grande Valley, I think I have settled on this:

It's the 2008 Specialized Dolce Elite Women's Bike. This is the Creme de la Creme. The Rolls Royce's of all cars. Aaaahh. This bike weighs about only 18 lbs and I'll be riding at about 17 mph real quick on this.
I hope that the hubby will give in and choose this bike. He is dead set on reviewing more websites and stores and I JUST WANT THIS ONE!!! Whaaaah!
(by the way if I get this bike, I can say "so long see ya" to our entertainment center on my wishlist..... the agony of really choosing what i want .....)

27th Annual Edinburg 10K

Given the circumstances of my sprained ankle and hurt knee; I still made myself complete the event. I'd told myself several times that I was not going to flake out :) and I didn't.
I thought that I would feel so proud and excited right after the race but it was actually before the race that I felt most proud and loved. My hubby called from the golf course telling me that I was "1st place in his book already."
My heart was so full that I cried and of course my friend laughed. We laughed together the whole event reminiscing over times at South Padre Island. Ahhhh, the memories!

Are you Superstitious?? Hawaiian Black Sand

Mr. Lo & I had the wonderful pleasure of honeymooning in Hawaii (Kauai and the Big Island). We had a wonderful time and got to do lots of exciting things.

We got dirty in Kauai (heheh), we saw gorgeous rainbows, we took a flight over the islands, saw the humpback whales, visited some beautiful old lighthouses. I spared the later of the photos for space sake.

Anyways, to get the story started, The REEL HAPPY NEWLYWED's decided to take something that we shouldn't have. The Infamous Black Sand......

Mr & I both wanted to bring back a momento of this beautiful beach and island. The sand was majestic and amazing. The sea turtles that played loving in the ocean came up onto the sand and basked on the black sand. It was amazing. We met some wonderful guys visiting from Japan, others from London and some from Greece. We had a wonderful playing around on the beach.

We left Punalu'u Black Sand Beach with a Ziploc full of this fascinating sand, along with some lava rocks and coral. This beach is a gem of a find on the Big Island of Hawaii. Located half-way between Volcano and Na'alehu on the southern portion of the Big Island of Hawaii.
The rest of the trip we often thought to ourselves what we were going to do with the sand. We wanted to put it in a vase we got for our wedding and showcase in our entertainment center (when we got one). We had some friends come over for food and drinks and showed them how beautiful it was. My brother right away told me. "Are you kidding me? I'm not touching that!" "Sonia, don't you know it's bad luck to bring back anything from the islands?"
Of course I didn't Do-Do head. If I'd known I wouldn't have brought it!
Uggghhh, the pit of my stomach felt like waves of guilt running wildly in my body. I couldn't sleep. And Mr. Lo kept telling me we have to send it back. Oh yeah, now you want too. You went and bought the Ziploc bags! I refused stating we weren't really "SUPERSTITIOUS" and I was going to prove this so called curse wrong.
I researched this so-called bad luck mystery and this is what I found:
We at first did not believe in this nonsense. But little by little we caught ourselves laughing OH, it's the Black Sand Ooooooohhhh LOLOL.
This week, we'd had enough and so had my family.
Some things have happened to us lately. Coincidental, I think NOT! Here's a small rundown:
-We actually began to argue a little about some things that had never bothered us before.
-I forgot about a 5k I was supposed to participate in, that I'd recruited others for.
-My husbands 2 pregnant sisters and 2 brother in laws were in a serious roll over car accident (all were well)
-I sprained my ankle right before a 10K (after a doctors visit all is well)
-I missed 2 days of working out when I'd vowed to be loyal 5 days straight (my own personal goal)
-When I fell and sprained my ankle- that evening I had severe chest pains that I seriously thought I was having a heart attack (doctors visit showed no broken ribs)
-The doctor visit did however show that I had abnormal heart Rhythm and put me on a 24 hour heart monitor. One week to get results.
-4 co-workers were laid off
My mother literally came over this morning (with orders from my Daddy) to go and return the "stuff" immediately! Overnight!!!
The Mr & I are happy to get if out of our hands and back to Hawaii where it rightfully belongs.
Goddess Pele, we are truly sorry for disturbing your land. We would've never had done this if we'd only known. Please forgive us.

Wheeeew!! I can't wait for the Fex-Ex confirmation.

(Hence, we have beautiful photos to remember our fantabulous honeymoon) We'll treasure ours forever!
IF you have "stuff" send it back IMMEDIATELY!

Lost in thought.....

Lately, we've been looking around for the perfect entertainment center for our home. We've looked at over 5 furniture places. This seems to be the entertainment center for our lovely home. The only problem is how much it costs!!! Yikes!! I won't even say how many "mula bucks" it will cost.

Like many others we are torn between the thought of saving our money, buying that fabulous ent center from Lacks or taking a fabulous summer vacation....... Mr. L says let's go for the center as long as we can get the AWESOME new flat screen...... I'm stuck between putting it away and going to Italy this summer...... :(

Baby Smells

Have you ever had one of those mornings when you get up to wake up your son or daughter for school and they smell like the day they were born......
Today was one of those days! Roberto was off from school today and I went in to wake him up and I leaned in to give him a kiss on his nose like I always do; as I leaned in he threw his arms around me and kiss me first. As I lay there with him, my nose nestled into his neck I smelled the wonderful smell of "Baby!" Oh what memories it brought back and I just teared up. I remember him in the hospital so wonderful and warm; and me feeling like I didn't know how I would change his diapers and make his bottles and so scared of breaking him. Luckily, my Mom came tot he rescue! Mom and my sister laughed, as they visited us in Dallas, about my box of latex gloves!! Yes there were for me to wear when I changed Roberto. I didn't want to get DIIIRTY!!!!
Little did I know :o)
It wasn't long before I had passed all my insecurities of not knowing what to do. I was a pro soon enough and I was so proud of my bouncing baby boy, just like all mothers are. I was especially proud :)
Amazing what a specific smell/scent can do and how it can change your whole day.

More amazing is that next Sunday our "families" will be blessed with 2 new bouncing additions. Richard's sister Robin will be having her first baby (a boy) and my cousin Jacqueline Raquel will be have her first baby (girl). Babies, Onesie's everywhere...... Diapers, Doodies no time to spare!
The happy daddies to be are Joseph and Richie.
Ahhh, babies I love them!

Wedding Photo

We have officially chosen our Official Wedding Day Photo. The photo was taken outside my parents home. We went there after the ceremony to take additional photos and this turned out beautifully.

Our photographers were absolutely fabulous with us. Not only with Richard and I but with our families, our guests and the kids. We could not have asked for more. We look at our photos and are still amazed by the magic they captured.

We'll be able to share these photos with our loved ones for years to come and will actually be proud to pull these pictures out. I cannot say it enough times that "RGV Photography" are the absolute BEST wedding photographers in the RGV! No doubt. :o)

Happy 1 Month Anniversary

Wow! The time just flew by. it's been one full month and it's still amazing to us. We are still reeling from the wedding, Christmas and Honeymoon. We are so thrilled. We are now officially planning on Valentine's Day dinner.
When I was out with the girls the other night we came up with an awesome idea. The wheels are in motion to have V-Day dinner here at the house with some of our Couple friends.
The New Mr. & Mrs. Richard Anthony Lopez say "Thank You!" to everyone who was there and those of you who couldn't be there but still wish us many many happy years to come.
We love you all and look forward to many blissful memories together.

First Christmas Married

Our First Christmas together Married.

We weren't going to get each other any gifts because of the wedding and all, but somehow or another we managed to get each other soemthing special. Richard got me this super awesome Citizen watch that matches his!! Awwww,,, while we were in Hawaii we decided to check out the dive precisions on it. We went went Snuba'ing we made sure to look at the depth on our watches and sure enough; his banked at 50 ft deep and mine at only 20 ft deep; I was scared :o( haha

Sometimes I forget how romantic Richard can be. Even after the wedding and Christmas, he still found a moment when we were in Hawaii to surprise me with a special Honeymoon/Wedding gift. I was so surprised that he would think of this. Most of the time, I'm satisfied with a new fishing reel or rod or a new pair of mud/hiking boots BUT this brought me back to the romantic days that Richard originally won me over with. (Besides his good looks of course)
He bought me a necklace & earrings set made of Tahitian Black Pearls - Grade A of course.

Sweet Lopez Riesling Bottle of Wine

I've been asked by several people for a bottle of wine or a picture of it. It was a definite hit!!
We had a custom label and Riesling wine made for our wedding.
Here's a picture of the label and bottle made for us by a custom shop.
Not only is the label great but it is wonderfully refreshing. Our wine was a Crunchy Green Apple Sweet Lopez Riesling Wine.
If you are interested in having your own made please contact:
Water 2 Wine in McAllen Texas
John and Ellie are AWESOME!

Rosanna's Birthday Dinner

Saturday night we all went out the our favorite Birthday hangout, Santa Fe Steakhouse. We love this place. Its was Rosanna's 40th birthday and we all wanted to be sure to celebrate this special night with her. So Letty, Kristina, Eva, Lino (Eva's boyfriend), Rosanna and myself all joined forces on this night. Oh and if you're wondering where Richard was...... well, after our honeymoon he was so ready to get back into his hunting gear and go shoot a Trophy Buck. My sweetheart. I'm blessed to have him in my life.

Speaking of Blessed...... these wonderful ladies are more like family to me. You know you have a good life when your friends are there when you need them; through thick and thin. I love these women and I know that they know how much they mean to me and how much I value our friendships.

Happy Birthday Rosanna!!

Hawaii, friends, tampa bay

I'm still trying to figure out how to blog and post so bear with me! over the last several months I have had so much fun not only planning a wedding but also traveling and hanging out with my friends. We've visited with family for bbq's, birthday parties and just because. It's been such a whirlwind for the last 3 months but it's now time to relax and be settled. I'm including some pics of our trip to Tampa Bay , Florida; some from our Hawaii Honeymoon and some of my most favorite subject....... Roberto!
